Fuente en la Calle - 11x14 wc

Long before I visited San Miguel de Allende I saw pictures of this fountain in travel related literature. I hoped I might find it. One day during my first visit in San Miguel, I accidentally came upon it. I wasn’t disappointed. It was even more interesting in real life. I couldn’t help myself, I sat right down in the shade of the wall to my left and did this painting. San Miguel has many street fountains in walls along the narrow sidewalks, each one a different design. In the past, before more modern conveniences, each of these fountains served as a source of water for an entire neighborhood. No longer needed as a source of water, each neighborhood remembers and treasures the importance of these fountains and continues to clean and decorate them for annual festivals. I never tire of seeing these interesting fountains as they suddenly appear around corners and at the end of narrow streets, but this one remains at the top of my list as a favorite.
